Entry #1 - Interview Project
Hello my name is Esther Mosher, I am a sophomore (10) and I am looking forward to reflecting on what it means to examine our hearts to be imitators of Christ. Speaking of which, I conducted three interviews where I found it quite interesting that I responded to how I measure spiritual maturity with observing how a Christian lives their life. I found this stirring because when the same question was asked to my dad (how do you measure spiritual maturity?), he responded with "you measure spiritual maturity through your fruits". And I found my fathers response very intriguing however, I don't really understand what he means by "through your fruits." When I interviewed my sister (Abbie) I found it fascinating that she answered the question how do you define spiritual maturity with "continuing to grow in her relationship with Christ". Her response was similar to both my response and to my dads. I answered the question by saying that spiritual maturity is "when a Christian fully understands what it means to be a Christian and what it means to live like one." My dad said that spiritual maturity is defined "when a person fully surrenders themselves to the authority of God. In fact, my dad used an interesting analogy to explain- imagine a house with many rooms. And, when a person fully surrenders to God, that person gives God permission to every room, crack and crevice in order to begin perfecting him or her". A question that I found difficult to answer again, was how you are to measure spiritual maturity. I really just couldn't wrap my mind around that concept, so I gave it my best shot by answering that spiritual maturity is measured by the way a Christian lives. And I think a way for me to grow in my faith this year, is to challenge my thinking and try to understand the concept of what it truly means to be an imitator of Christ.
